14th November - 25th January 2024

The October Gallery is thrilled to showcase 'Nature Morte,' the fourth solo exhibition by artist Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga. This exhibition highlights the destructive impact of mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kamuanga's intricate paintings portray contemporary nursery scenes featuring matriarchal figures encircled by plastic toys and paraphernalia. These maternal figures lament the loss of children due to mining accidents and toxic waste.

Artist Bettina Fung | 馮允珊 will be leading an immersive life drawing session where students will be able to explore the layered compositions of Ilunga's work through recreating their very own mises-en-scène.

The sessions will concentrate on multifigure artworks that incorporate storytelling, particularly the impact of pollution and waste on our environment. Collaboratively, they will utilise various props and plastic objects to pose and draw from the scenes they construct.
