Aubrey Williams

For Black History Month we were inspired by Guyanaese artist Aubrey Williams' exhibition. His abstract expressionist paintings draw on so many influences from his rich and varied lifestyle, spanning from the Carib

bean, to South America to the UK. With artist Esther Adesigbin school groups explored music and colour; referencing the experimental aspects of Williams' work.

Williams painted many series of works, often influenced by a specific topic, for example, he spent 10 years painting whilst listening to Russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich.

Aubrey Williams is an important artist and founding member of the Caribbean Artist Movement in 1966, based in London. He is the only Caribbean artist with work on display currently at Tate Modern.
