Upcoming & Past School Workshops

Monday 21st March - Thursday 28th April

Join our wonderful artist educator Amy Rose Barnes in the gallery to explore the rare collection of Aubrey Williams beautiful drawings and paintings all made on paper. Together we will create work inspired by the artist, and his use of abstract shape and colour.

In terms of cross-curricular themes, we will examine Williams travel around the world, particularly his time in London. Williams arrived in London in 1952, and travelled extensively around Britain and Europe to examine first-hand the works of modernist artists that he had admired since beginning to paint in his youth. His arrival came during a crucial period, when Caribbean artists and intellectuals were beginning to inject the capital with a vibrant creativity. Williams was a founding member of the Caribbean Artists Movement, which united Caribbean artists working in Britain to forge a new and modern sense of Caribbean aesthetics and identity.
