Family Art Day
Saturday, 13th June, 2026
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
October Gallery
Free and open to families of all ages.
Please note: this event is first come first served and when we are at capacity, we operate a one in, one out policy.
Family Art Day offers the opportunity to explore the October Gallery with your family when the Gallery is usually closed to the public.
Suitable for all ages, families are invited to create their very own artworks in this workshop is inspired by the Gallery's Fashion & Fortune exhibition. In this workshop led by artist-facilitator Tyreis Holder, participants will focus on process and self-expression rather than producing a finished or perfect object. Participants are encouraged to experiment with the tactile nature of wrapping, twisting and layering materials.
The workshop draws inspiration from the themes within the exhibition: ideas of adornment, transformation, identity and fashion as sculptural expression. We will also explore sustainable making through the use of recycled and donated textiles!

The Poetics of Healing — Textiles as Language and Intuitive Practice
Tyreis Holder is an artist, poet and visual storyteller whose practice explores textiles, poetry, identity and intuitive making. Taking inspiration from Sokari Douglas Camp’s current exhibition, Fashion & Fortune, this practical CPD session will explore textiles as language through creative discussion and hands-on weaving.
Tyreis will share their practice and lead a practical activity exploring textiles, poetry and identity. The session is suitable for artists, educators, volunteers and anyone interested in creative, reflective approaches to working with groups.
Book via Eventbrite here.

What We Carry
Join OG Youth Collective for a hands-on workshop responding to Sokari Douglas Camp’s Fashion & Fortune exhibition on National Windrush Day. Using pierced aluminium, embossing, metal painting, fabric and weaving, we will create wearable tokens exploring what we carry, protect, transform and reveal as we move between places, histories, identities and versions of ourselves.
No experience is needed — just bring curiosity and a willingness to experiment with materials and ideas!
You can sign up to join the OG Youth Collective via the form available here or you can just drop-in on the session day.
